A Weekend at Wannamaker Lake, Ontario

Shelby and I spent this past weekend at Wannamaker Lake in the company of Annie and her boxer Roxy.  We were excited to spend a girl’s only weekend filled with conversation, doggie paddling, canoeing, fishing and plain old relaxing!  Unfortunately, this camping “haven”, as described on the website, did not meet some of our expectations.  The proprietor had to mow some weeds down to create a site to pitch our tent!  We did not have our own fire pit, nor did we have a picnic table.  There was a communal bathroom that was lacking toilet paper (note to self: always pack some TP when going camping!).  Annie and I did not despair; with a little improvisation and quick thinking we ended up with a very nice set-up nestled in the cool shade of some trees and with a nice view of the lake.  The gorgeous lake, fantastic weather and great company more than made up for the lack luster camping amenities.

p.s. Swimming in the lake with the dogs was quite hilarious.  Despite Roxy’s regal appearance; she is a complete wimp when it comes to taking a dip in the wet stuff.  Shelby was so petrified she spent most of the time perched up on my shoulder or on my head while I swam.  It is the funniest thing to see this little creature paddling 1000 strokes a minute.  Sorry no pictures! We didn’t want to run the risk of tipping the canoe and potentially damaging the cameras ;)
